Top bantamweight rivals TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt will run it back on August 4th in Los Angeles.
Dillashaw (15-3) will make the first defense of his second reign as UFC bantamweight champion against Garbrandt (11-1), the man he dethroned for the title this past November, according to a report from ESPN. It’s yet to be confirmed if the bout will serve as the main event of the card but that should become clear on Friday when the UFC hosts a press conference in Brooklyn featuring a cast of headliners and co-headliners for their upcoming major spring and summer events.
The trash talk between Dillashaw and Garbrandt reached new heights during their time as coaches on Season 25 of The Ultimate Fighter reality series. Their initial fight booking for UFC 213 would be canceled due to a back injury suffered by Garbrandt delaying the bout until UFC 217 in New York.
Garbrandt would stun Dillashaw early, but would eventually suffer defeat, the first of his career, via TKO in the second round of the fight. After putting Garbrandt away, an emotional Dillashaw would scream into the face of his dazed opponent, put an exclamation point on the end of the first chapter of their ongoing rivalry.
