UFC Manila debut gets Edgar-Faber super fight

Published

on

fight-night-manilaA super fight starring two of the toughest fighters equipped with two of the biggest hearts in the history of the lighter weight classes has been set for the UFC’s debut in Manila.

On May 16th, Urijah Faber will move back up the division where he had the most success to take on former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar in a five round main event that will go off inside of the Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines and air live stateside on FOX Sports 1.

A couple of interesting stats of note, Frankie Edgar has never been finished during his 23-fight career while Urijah Faber has never lost in a non-title fight. 26 of 32 of Faber’s wins have come by way of the finish while half of Edgar’s 18 wins have come via finish. This is a fun fight that is more than worthy of being the first headliner in a city that is synonymous with one of the greatest fights in history; the historic third meeting between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, which is better known to combat sports historians as “The Thrilla in Manila”.

Here is what UFC Fight Night 65 ‘Edgar vs. Faber’ looks like on paper as it stands today:

• Featherweight Main Event: Frankie Edgar (18-4-1) vs. Urijah Faber (32-7)

• Lightweight Bout: Zhang Lipeng (9-8-1) vs. Kajan Johnson (19-11-1)
