UFC on FOX 9: Road to the Octagon (Full Video)

The UFC returns to FOX on December 14th where they will be making their presence known inside of Sacramento’s Sleep Train Arena. UFC bantamweight Urijah Faber will be right at home in his very own backyard of Sac Town where he is a local hero. His opponent, Modesto, CA’s Michael McDonald, won’t be very far from his either when they throw down in the evenings co-main event.
We’ve watched Faber become a veteran of the sport over the years. He’s certainly closer to the end now than he is the beginning. He’s become an idol to many of the lighter weight fighters; he’s done similar to what B.J. Penn did for the lightweight class years ago. He’s also become a poster boy for positivity and if you follow his work outside of the Octagon you know he’ll be a successful motivational speaker for years to come. His fight against McDonald celebrates the classic tale of old guard versus new guard. Is Faber still that title challenger we believe him to be? Or is it time for the former WEC champ to abandon his hopes of UFC gold and give the young McDonald the ultimate push in defeat?
The main event of the night pits two-time defending UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson against the man he beat to win the title via split decision, Joseph Benavidez. Benavidez has been a title contender in two divisions for quite some time now. His first fight was with Johnson was a close and exciting one and you better believe that he has made the proper adjustments in hopes of earning that ever elusive strap.
Also, a welterweight scrap between former interim champion Carlos Condit and the red-hot Matt Brown will hit the airwaves before Faber takes on McDonald in the co-main event. Not only is this a fantasy matchup for the fans, this very well could crown the next #1 contender depending on what Georges St. Pierre decides to do with his fighting career. In a month that is stacked with must see fights – this one is right at the top.
The latest edition of ‘Road to the Octagon’ takes a closer look at all six of the aforementioned UFC stars. You can check it out in its entirety below.
