UFC Vegas 25: Dominick Reyes vs Jiri Prochazka Preview

UFC Vegas 25 has a lot on the line for Dominick Reyes and Jiri Prochazka as the light heavyweights battle in the main event to move one step closer to the title.

In the co-main event, featherweight veteran Cub Swanson takes on rising star Giga Chikadze. Elsewhere, Ion Cutelaba looks to bounce back into the win column against Dustin Jacoby, Sean Strickland takes on Krzysztof Jotko and Merab Dvalishvili fights Cody Stamann.

Dominick Reyes vs Jiri Prochazka

Prochazka is on an eleven-fight win streak, and made his UFC debut last year at UFC 251, knocking out Volkan Oezdemir in a violent manner. Reyes has lost two in a row, against Jon Jones and Jan Blachowicz, but he’s still one of the best strikers and contenders at light heavyweight.

Stylistically, it’s a great matchup. Reyes is the more technical of the two strikers, while Prochazka is very unorthodox in his approach. Both have great movement, and knockout power, therefore, we shouldn’t expect the fight to go the distance because these guys are going to land some menacing shots.

Prochazka will have the mental edge on the night as he’s not lost in quite a while, and has been knocking out one opponent after another. He has 24 career wins by knockouts, twice the number of fights that his opponent has. All in all, it’s going to be a great fight, and we should expect fireworks at UFC Vegas 25.

Cub Swanson vs Giga Chikadze

After losing four in the row, Cub Swanson is slowly making his way back up, and is currently riding a two-fight win streak, but Giga Chikadze is yet to lose in the UFC.

Swanson is a veteran of the fight game and has fought some of the best names in the sport. He’s a very well-rounded fighter, who is comfortable wherever the fight goes, but he’s at his best on the feet. Chikadze is also predominantly a striker and a very efficient one.

He has got a decent amount of power in his hands, and is very experienced in striking competitions, although he’s relatively new to MMA. He certainly has the edge in striking, and a good enough takedown defense to keep the fight on the feet, but Swanson is as tough as they come.

Ion Cutelaba vs Dustin Jacoby

Ion Cutelaba vs Dustin Jacoby is going to be another fun fight that guarantees a lot of action. Cutelaba is a brawler, and loves a firefight, while Jacoby is a very technical and experienced kickboxer who picks his shots really well.

Cutelaba has lost his last two fights to Magomed Ankalaev, while Jacoby has won both of his fights in the UFC. Therefore, the momentum will be on Jacoby’s side. With that being said, all Cutelaba needs is one solid connection and it’s curtains for his opponent.

The fight could go either way, but one thing is for sure, it’ll be very entertaining.

Sean Strickland vs. Krzysztof Jotko

Sean Strickland vs Krzysztof Jotko is another fun matchup that guarantees entertainment. Strickland is on a three-fight win streak and has won seven out of his last nine fights. On the other hand, Jotko has also won three in a row, but he has lost one more than his opponent in his last nine fights.

Strickland is a very well-rounded fighter, who is comfortable wherever the fight goes. He has a greater striking average than his opponent, who is more accurate in his strikes.

The two are very well-matched and the fight, like the others on the card, can go either way and is too close to call, regardless of who has the edge on paper.

Merab Dvalishvili vs Cody Stamann

Cody Stamann has only been finished once in his career, by Aljamain Sterling, who happens to be the teammate of Merab Dvalishvili, with a very similar wrestling-heavy style. That should give Dvalishvili a lot of confidence.

Dvalishvili averages nearly eight takedowns landed per 15 minutes, which is incredible. He constantly pressures his opponents and is a takedown machine. Stamann has solid ground defense and offense, but Dvalishvili is on a different level altogether. Stamann has a better chance of winning this fight if he keeps it on the feet, otherwise, he’s going to have a tough outing at UFC Vegas 25.
