Weidman-Rockhold title bout added to UFC 194

Before Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor unify the UFC featherweight titles inside of the MGM Grand Garden Arena on December 12th, Chris Weidman (13-0) and Luke Rockhold (14-2) will go to war for the UFC middleweight title. UFC officials announced this bout as the co-main event of UFC 194 just moments ago.

Since first competing for the title in 2013, we’ve seen Weidman defeat three of the greatest Brazilian’s to ever enter the octagon in Anderson Silva (twice), Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort and you could argue he’s still not getting the respect he deserves. Now, the champion faces potentially his toughest test to date in the form of Rockhold.

Unlike the aforementioned men, who are all much closer to the end of their careers than the beginning, the former Strikeforce champion is really hitting his stride as of late Рsaying that is a man who is in his prime would be a gross understatement.

Rockhold’s last two victories over Lyoto Machida and Michael Bisping, both submission finishes, were of the statement making variety, earning him consecutive performance of the night bonuses. He’ll look to extend that streak on December 12th when he attempts to defeat the undefeated Chris Weidman inside of the MGM Grand Garden Arena – an arena where Weidman has already made history on multiple occasions during his young career.
