With Alexander Gustafsson injured, UFC Fight Night Berlin gets a new main event

An injury to former UFC #1 light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson means that the main event originally planned between him and Glover Teixeira has been scrapped from UFC Fight Night 69 in Berlin. A new main event pitting women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk against former Invicta FC atomweight queen Jessica Penne has been named as an official replacement.
For Jedrzejczyk, this will be the first defense of the title she won back at UFC 185 against Carla Esparza. Jedrzejczyk finished Esparza with authority en route to a violent TKO victory crowning her as only the 2nd women’s strawweight champion in UFC history. She’ll look to become the first woman to successfully defend that title on June 20th in Berlin when she faces off against Penne.
For Jessica Penne, this will be the TUF 20 alums 2nd official fight under the UFC banner. The former #1 ranked atomweight in the world won a hard fought split decision victory over Michigan Top Team’s Randa Markos on the season finale show after losing to Esparza in the semifinals.
Whether or not Glover Teixeira will be moved to another card (possibly against Ryan Bader, who was originally scheduled to fight Daniel Cormier on June 6th in New Orleans) or a replacement opponent will be found for him on this card remains to be seen.
Below you’ll find your fully updated card for UFC Fight Night 69 ‘Jedrzejczyk vs. Penne’ as it stands today.
