WrestleMania 33 Preview: John Cena & Nikki Bella vs. The Miz & Maryse

How Did We Get Here?: The build to this feud began with a couple of backstage segments that saw Nikki getting shoved into Maryse by Natalya. On the other side of things, Miz and Cena traded eliminations in important multi-man affairs. Nothing too crazy. Once we got “there” though, oh my, what a ride it’s been.

For my money, the build up to this match on the “Road to WrestleMania’ has been the most consistent and the most entertaining. The Miz and Maryse have been on fire with their Total Bellas tomfoolery and John Cena has been nothing short of incredible when it comes to answering everything that’s been flung at him and Nikki from the “A-Lister” and his bride, the former 2-time Divas Champion.

It’s also been refreshing, as a hopeless romantic of sorts, to see Cena and Nikki genuinely enjoying working with one another in the ring. For everyone who has been knocking this match, making arguments that Cena should be in a bigger feud or that Nikki should be in a title match, I feel like this is really what both of them wanted right now as far as their respective careers are concerned. The timing is especially perfect considering that both will be taking some time away from wrestling for different reasons.

What’s at Stake?: Bragging rights. The Miz and Maryse can’t stand Cena and Bella. They downright hate everything they stand for. While Cena and Bella don’t exactly need to prove their love to their opponents or the fans (Miz has consistently said and implied that everything Cena says to Nikki and the WWE Universe is a lie) it’s a big part of the story and it’s kind of the whole basis of this feud.

Oh yeah, we also get Al Roker as a special ring announcer for this match thanks to Cena’s relationship with NBC’s Today show. Remember, it’s WrestleMania, it’s a spectacle. If you want to call it that.

Excitement Level: I can’t see the match itself surpassing such an incredible build, but that said, it’s a fun little match that should be strategically positioned right smack in the middle of the show. It’ll deliver for what it is. No one is expecting to see a five-star match here.

Prediction: Nikki and Cena score the victory and Cena proposes in the middle of the ring making this the biggest mainstream story to come out of WrestleMania in quite some time.
