WWE Extreme Rules predictions

Things are about to get ‘Extreme’ in Baltimore when the RAW exclusive PPV comes to the Royal Farms Arena on a Sunday night in June. Four title matches and a main event to decide to the next contender for Brock Lesnar’s Universal Title are set in stone, along with a fun mixed tag match, and we have thoughts and predictions on all of them below. Feel free to connect with us @Wrestling Desk tomorrow night beginning at 7 p.m ET for some live Extreme Rules fun.

Fatal 5-Way Extreme Rules Match (To Determine #1 Contender for Universal Title)
Roman Reigns vs. Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins vs. Samoa Joe vs. Bray Wyatt

With Braun Strowman out, WWE had to put something good together at top of this card and I love what they came up with. I also love how everyone competitor has been made to look strong at one point or another leading up to this match. Since it appears that the winner of this fatal 5-way is being used as bantha fodder for ‘The Beast Incarnate’ at WWE Great Balls of Fire, I think the winner will be the guy who needs it the most. So, let’s first eliminate the four men who don’t.

Roman Reigns: It’s no secret that Lesnar versus Reigns is a lock for WrestleMania 34. There’s no reason to put him and Lesnar together outside of confrontation until then. He’s out.

Finn Balor: Love the idea of Balor versus Lesnar if you want to put the Universal Title back on Balor and form the Balor Club with him, Anderson and Gallows. Just don’t see it happening. Balor moves back to the feud that was being teased with Wyatt.

Bray Wyatt: See above. Balor and Wyatt are out.

Seth Rollins: If we’re talking about who needs a push the most, it’s not Rollins. He’s doing just fine. Maybe he moves into a feud with The Miz or teams up with Ambrose to help the depleted tag team division. He’s out.

Samoa Joe: We have a winner. Brock Lesnar versus Samoa Joe is the shot in the proverbial arm WWE needs with Strowman out. Did you like Lesnar versus Goldberg at WrestleMania? These two could give you the same kind of match and double the run time. Plus, out of all of these guys, Joe could use a bg feud on the main roster right now the most. It’ll only do his character favors and give him more legitimacy as a killer over time. This is the right move. This is a match that doesn’t need a heel or a face. Just two killers with a mouthpiece named Paul to help put it over.

RAW Tag Team Championship Match (Steel Cage)
The Hardy Boyz (c) vs. Sheamus and Cesaro

The most exciting thing about this match is that once it’s over, these two teams can hopefully either move on to different feuds, or one of them will break up to create an interesting storyline on RAW. Regardless, even though we’ve seen enough of these men competing against one another in some way, shape or form on Monday night’s over the past weeks, this should be a great blow off match involving four great talents. I like The Hardy Boyz to continue on as champions for now until The Revival return to action this summer.

RAW Women’s Championship Match (Kendo Stick-on-a-Pole Match)
Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Bayley

This stipulation, I, I’m really trying guys. You know what, better yet, can someone please defend it in either the comments section or @Wrestling Desk? Just for my amusement, if anything? Thanks. I love Bliss and I really miss her on Smackdown Live (and on Talking Smack). She brings a ton to RAW and I feel that we’ll see more of that when they (hopefully) put her against Banks after this feud. This is pretty much a repeat of what we saw with Charlotte and Bayley and it isn’t doing anyone any favors. I like Bayley to get the Kendo stick and get her licks in before some chicanery goes down and Bliss is able to utilize it for the dirty victory.

Intercontinental Championship Match (Ambrose will lose title if DQ’ed)
Dean Ambrose (c) vs. The Miz w/ Maryse

When The Miz and Dean Ambrose came over from Smackdown live in April as part of the Superstar Shakeup, with two solid talents moving from Tuesday to Monday, you’d think the folks in charge would have found some great feuds for each man. Instead, they just decide to continue a feud that has been going on over on SD Live for a minute now showing us that we really can’t expect much in a creative sense from this brand.

The stip tells me that Ambrose will likely lose the strap to The Miz, by no fault of Ambrose. The Miz begins his 7th reign as IC champ meaning RAW will officially become the home for the most must-see Champion in the company. Moving forward, I’d love to see Ambrose start a tag team run with ‘The Drifter’ – this brand needs more tag teams and Ambrose would be a great hand to help that division right now. Plus, since WWE seems to like Ambrose in that comedy role, pairing him with Elias Samson in that way would make the most sense. Wait, I have an even better idea. How about Rollins and Ambrose as a tag team? Talk about missed opportunities not doing something Shield related with all three men on the same brand. Time to fix that, especially with the dwindling ratings.

Cruiserweight Championship Match (Submission Match)
Neville (c) vs. Austin Aries

Aside from the main event, I fully expect this to be the best match on this show. Neville and Aries have been nothing short of magic together in a feud that has been tragically underappreciated. I’ll admit it, I thought Aries would emerge victorious at WrestleMania. Not only was I wrong — I’m glad I was wrong — that would’ve been the wrong move. Putting the title on Aries here, however, would be the right move. Aries submits Neville with ‘The Last Chancery’ and we get a very pissed off Neville moving forward on 205 Live.

Mixed Tag Team Match
Rich Swann & Sasha Banks vs. Noam Dar & Alicia Fox

For all the complaining I do about RAW (trust me, I edit out a ton of it) I have to be completely honest with you guys – I love this little feud! I know, I know – a lot of folks are unhappy about a great talent like Sasha being part of a mixed tag feud that has been relegated to 205 Live. Guess what, she can’t be in the top women’s feud for the rest of her career. She will feud with Bliss or Bayley for the title sooner rather than later and this feud is a great cool down feud for her for the time being. And it’s been fun. Swann and Banks have instant chemistry and Dar and Fox have been solid all along. I want so much more for everyone involved moving forward but this feud has been a blast and I think matches like these are perfect to kick off any WWE PPV. Banks and Swann for the win.
