WWE Fastlane 2017 staff predictions

The final PPV event before WrestleMania 33 is less than 24 hours away, so what better way to celebrate than reading an article with predictions from three dudes?? Let’s get right to it.

Universal Championship: Kevin Owens (c) vs. Goldberg

Dave Reno: Interference will be the story of this night and it continues when Brock Lesnar decides that he needs to get his hands on Goldberg before WrestleMania. He interferes and costs Goldberg the match meaning Owens gets to keep his title and defend it against his former best buddy, Chris Jericho, in the co-main event! Well, that’s what I hope will happen. Unfortunately, it’d make no sense for Lesnar to interfere in the match when Goldberg winning would actually benefit him since he’d be guaranteed a title shot with that match already being booked for Mania. Here’s what’s more likely to happen, Jackhammer, Spear – 1 – 2 – 3, Goldberg is your new Universal Champion. Screw it. I’m sticking with the first scenario. Owens escapes with the title.

Prediction: Owens

Dan Rose: Goldberg is going to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania and most likely, he’ll be Universal Champion when that takes place. It makes perfect sense for Jericho to come down and cost Owens the belt early. That way Goldberg gets the belt, Owens isn’t damaged, and it sets up the monster feud between former best friends. I hate that a part timer in either Goldberg or Brock Lesnar are going to have this belt after WrestleMania dammit WWE….one step forward, two steps back.

Prediction: Goldberg

Shawn Mareane: I’m 50-50 on this. I can envision Brock interfering, Jericho interfering, a no contest, a DQ, you name it. I’m having trouble imagining Goldberg being pinned. Why not make the WrestleMania main event mean more by adding in the title? Nothing else on that show seems worthy of closing it.

Prediction: Goldberg

Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman

Reno: This one is simple. The Undertaker interferes to cost Reigns the match keeping both men strong and setting up the Taker versus Reigns match at WrestleMania. Where this leaves the Brauny Lad moving forward – your guess is as good as mine.

Prediction: Strowman

Rose: If Braun doesn’t win this match, I riot. I riot like crazy. I riot like I’ve not rioted in like, six weeks.  Please give Braun the necessary push here and have him beat Reigns clean. The sad fact is Vince loves Roman Reigns, so Roman probably gets the win here. If Roman is going to face The Taker at WM, we need some kind of buildup.  Maybe it starts at FastLane? Who knows. Braun has to win this.

Prediction: Strowman

Mareane: I’m biased as I’ve never been a Strowman fan. I’m assuming Reigns is being lined up for Undertaker (because we all mostly wanted Cena/Taker, so screw us). Can’t imagine Undertaker’s opponent losing heading into WrestleMania. Unless his opponent is Strowman. *drinks heavily*

Prediction: Reigns

Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Charlotte Flair

Reno: The Queen continues her PPV streak with a victory over Bayley putting her on track to beat her father’s world-title record before the year is out.

Prediction: Charlotte

Rose: Charlotte doesn’t usually lose at PPV events, but I have a feeling she might here. I think Nia Jax is going to be taking on Bayley next, so I think Bayley escapes with her title. Not sure what they have planned for Charlotte, but a fatal four-way at WM with Bayley, Nia, Charlotte and Sasha could be very cool. I’m saying Bayley keeps her title.  If I were booking though, Charlotte would always be world champion and never lose. 🙂

Prediction: Bayley

Mareane: WWE acknowledges Charlotte’s PPV unbeaten streak, so I highly doubt she loses at a PPV called FastLane. One other thing for certain: Byron Saxton being fed lines in the headset and wailing like a baby about the wacky inflatable tube men.

Prediction: Charlotte

Sami Zayn vs. Samoa Joe

Reno: This was originally supposed to be Joe versus Zayn which likely would’ve led to some HHH interference but with Rollins injured, Zayn gets to play the role of the proverbial sacrificial lamb. That said, Samoa Joe is finally on the main roster – so that means everybody wins. Except for Sami Zayn.

Prediction: Samoa Joe

Rose: Two Words…..SAMOA JOE.  He’s in the midst of a mega-push. You don’t lose to Sami Zayn in the middle of a mega-push. You lose to Roman Reigns in the middle of a mega-push. I kid, I kid. Samoa Joe gets the win here, and Sami earns some tough guy street cred in defeat.

Prediction: Samoa Joe

Mareane: If Samoa Joe loses to Sami Zayn at this point in his main roster call-up, I’ll burn someone’s house down.

Prediction: Samoa Joe

Cruiserweight Championship: Neville (c) vs. Jack Gallagher

Reno: Gallagher is a gem when it comes to technical and comedy wrestling but Neville is the guy right now at 205 and under. He gets the big victory here setting up a feud between him and a returning Austin Aries.

Prediction: Neville

Rose: Jack Gallagher is a baller, and I dig his style. This is a really good matchup, and I’d love to see them keep it going for a while. No reason to take the strap off of Neville at this point. Let the angry dwarf polish his precious until WrestleMania and then give it to jolly Jack Gallagher. Neville goes over here, but it is going to be fun while it lasts.

Prediction: Neville

Mareane: I honestly don’t watch any cruiserweight stuff. I’d like to, but there’s too much wrestling on TV nowadays. That said, from what I’ve seen, Neville has been a really good heel. I don’t see any reason to take the belt off him yet. Gallagher hasn’t really gotten over with the main roster audience either.

Prediction: Neville

Tag Team Championship: Gallows & Anderson (c) vs. Enzo & Cass

Reno: No reason to take the titles off of Gallows & Anderson just yet. Why not have them retain and set up a dream match with them against The Revival at WrestleMania?

Prediction: Gallows & Anderson

Rose: Man, I’ll tell ya, Enzo and Big Cass are ready for the titles, and could have a decent run with them, but I’m not sure Vince is sold on Enzo as a champion. I think The Club keeps the gold, and we start seeing a bit of a splinter form between Cass and Enzo. Eventually, Big Cass is going to go singles, but it could be after Wrestlemania. If they wait, it makes sense that Enzo and Cass get the gold here. I’m torn, flip a coin. The Club retains.

Prediction: Gallows & Anderson

Mareane: I can’t take Enzo and Cass seriously. They’re never consistently presented as a serious team. Maybe they move a ton of merchandise or something though. They’re certainly a bigger draw. I still think the heels retain for now.

Prediction: Gallows & Anderson

Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax

Reno: Nia defeats Sasha again and the 3-time champ begins to unravel setting up that heel turn we’ve all been waiting for.

Prediction: Nia Jax

Rose: Nia Jax is an animal, and this one goes based on how they book the Charlotte/Bayley match. I’m going to go out on a limb and say Nia gets the win here, and Sasha loses despite putting up a game fight. Nia is just a machine right now. The only woman who beats her is Charlotte or Asuka.  Nia Jax goes over.

Prediction: Nia Jax

Mareane: Two wrestlers who have been horribly booked recently. Nia Jax seems to be the one getting the push, so I’ll go with her.

Prediction: Nia Jax

Rich Swann & Akira Tozawa vs. The Brian Kendrick & Noam Dar

Reno: The faces win and Milwaukee chants ‘CM Punk’, ‘This is Boring’ and a slew of other disrespectful chants during the match.

Prediction: Swann & Tozawa

Rose: I hate being that guy, but I’m going to be that guy.  I don’t care even the slightest amount about this match.  I will be making a sandwich, grabbing a beverage, cleaning up around the house, reading Headlock’d or anything else during this match. Not sure who wins, gut says Kendrick and Dar.  I do know I don’t care.

Prediction: Kendrick & Dar

Mareane: Tozawa and Swann – no reason in particular.

Prediction: Swanna & Tozawa
