WWE No Mercy 2016 full event predictions

WWE Smackdown Live’s 2nd solo Network special since this year’s brand split goes down later on tonight in Sacramento and Dave and Dan are ready to give you their picks for the first No Mercy since all the way back in 2008 when Chris Jericho did “IT” to Shawn Michaels in the ladder match main event to retain the Big Gold Belt. Let’s get it started with the ultra intriguing triple-threat main event.

WWE World Championship Triple Threat Match
AJ Styles (c) vs. Dean Ambrose vs. John Cena

Dave Reno: All three of these men have been dynamite in the lead up to this match. Cena absolutely lambasted Ambrose a couple of weeks back on Talking Smack and Ambrose gave it right back to his face on Smackdown Live this past Tuesday night. Then you have the champ. I still believe Styles is the best pro wrestler in the game today and I see no reason for him not to go on an extended run until a Joe or a Nakamura come up from NXT to challenge him. Since Cena is allegedly going away for a couple of months to film season 2 of American Grit, it’d be silly to have Ambrose take the pin.

Prediction: AJ Styles pins Cena, again.

Dan Rose: Cena, Cena, Cena…..the man deserves his 16th championship, but not at the expense of newly minted champion, AJ Styles.  Belts need to mean something, and Styles is deserving of a lengthy run.

I really like the promos Cena has been cutting, and he’s the best, but he doesn’t need a world title to be the man.  He can lose the match and still keep his image intact.  The important thing is, do not let Ambrose get over at Cena’s expense.

Dean Ambrose is not a world champion.  He doesn’t represent what a champion needs to represent.  I think his run with the title showed a few things, one glaring issue is that it showed is that Ambrose isn’t ready to represent the company.

Prediction: Bottom line, these guys can have an amazing match, and AJ Styles can win clean and maintain the championship.  Cena should have his moments, but this is about AJ Styles and he needs to walk out with the belt.

WWE Intercontinental Championship Title vs. Career Match
The Miz (c) w/ Maryse vs. Dolph Ziggler

Reno: This is day 188 of the never-ending Miz and Maryse Intercontinental Championship world tour. Expect the tour to continue through San Jose on Tuesday night and beyond. Ziggler’s been great since the brand split and make no mistake about it, the 36-year-old will be back for more matches in the not so distant future. Expect him to leave it all in the ring tonight – like he always does. Let’s just hope we don’t get a sequel to The Colonel versus Pupper Cluckers.

Prediction: The Miz ends Ziggler’s career in what could easily be the match of the night.

Rose: This is the one match I’m really enjoying the build to. Both guys are playing their roles perfectly and Dolph has made himself a sympathetic character and The Miz is an absolute bastard.  Ever since The Miz unloaded on Daniel Bryan at Talking Smack, he’s been different. He’s got an edge and is on fire.  I love The Miz, and I dig Ziggler.  This is going to be good.

I expect a lengthy back and forth clash, with lots of near falls.  I sincerely hope that The Miz gets the win clean here, and ends Ziggler’s career without interference.  I think however, Mayrse gets involved somehow and costs Ziggler the match, and ultimately his career.

Prediction: I’m not sure what will happen with The Miz long-term, but he deserves a lengthy break, and I fully expect him to get it after losing to The Miz and No Mercy .

* WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship Match
Becky Lynch (c) vs. Alexa Bliss

Reno: A big spot here for Alexa Bliss who has been superb in her role as the top women’s heel on Smackdown Live. She gives the fans a show with some despicable actions but in the end, Becky Baloba leaves Sac-town with the strap over her shoulder.

Prediction: Becky Lynch via dis-arm-her.

Rose: I’ve read that this match has been scrapped, as Becky suffered an undisclosed injury, so I am not sure what’s going on.  If the match goes on as scheduled, expect Bliss to put up one hell of a fight, but come up just short in her claim to become champion.  Lynch is a solid champion, and she deserves a fair run, the important thing in my opinion is to have Lynch retain, but put Bliss over in the process.

Prediction: Becky Lynch retains the title.

*  Becky Lynch has been removed from this match due to a undisclosed health issue

WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match
Heath Slater and Rhyno (c) vs. The Usos

Reno: It’s been a fun run for Heath Slater and Rhyno but it ends here by the hands of ‘Evil’ Jimmy and Jey. Every card needs at least one title change and this is the only one you’re going to get tonight.

Prediction: The Usos do Slater and Rhyno dirty.

Rose: I’d like to see Rhyno and Heath Slater get the win and keep the belts, but something tells me The Usos are not likely to see their push end at No Mercy.  The Usos have been repackaged as heels, and are doing a solid job in that role.

Heath Slater has been a revelation on Smackdown, and now that he’s earned his Double Wide BAAAYBEEEEE…..I hope the end isn’t near.  I think it’s a matter of time before Rhyno gets tired of Slater, and his clan of kids.

Prediction: I think this match ends with The Usos getting the win, and Slater and Rhyno splitting up.  Hope not, but I have that feeling.

Singles Match
Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt

Reno: As one of the strongest defenders of Bray Wyatt over the years, I simply can’t do it anymore. He’s given us a character that has been one of the best of this era but for whatever reason it seems to have run its course. Is it his fault or has it been due to the way he’s been booked? That doesn’t matter anymore. Wyatt is one of the guys who has benefited the least from this brand split so far and unless he can go over Orton tonight I just don’t see things getting any better for him anytime soon. Bray Wyatt is becoming one of those “what could’ve been” performers and it’s pretty depressing to think about as a fan.

Prediction: Orton gets the victory and puts himself in line for the next crack at Styles’ world title.

Rose: If there’s one thing I know for certain, it’s that the WWE has NO IDEA how to handle Bray Wyatt.  They have been misusing and burying him at every PPV event, and this one will be no different.  Expect Wyatt to have a surprise in store for the match, some secret help, or maybe the debut of Sister Abigail …. But Randy Orton will hit the RKO and get the pin.

I hate how the WWE has been using Wyatt, and this whole bizarre feud with Orton is no different.  I’d love to pretend that Wyatt is going to win, but he’s not. Hype, build, lose, rinse, repeat.

Prediction: Orton by RKO.

Singles Match
Nikki Bella vs. Carmella

Reno: Carmella has been surprisingly good as a heel obsessed with destroying the longest reigning Divas Champion at any given moment. I think she’ll prove that she’s worthy of her main roster spot tonight but this particular match was tailor-made for Nikki Bella to get her revenge and prove that she’s back and she means business.

Prediction: Nikki Bella gets the job done.

Rose: Ever since Nikki came back from injury, Carmella has been her shadow.  She’s attacked her at every turn, and has made a name for herself in doing so.  Nikki is a big commodity for the WWE though, as a star of Total Bellas, and Total Divas, having her lose at No Mercy is as they might say, bad for business.

Prediction: I expect some decent spots in this match, but in the end, expect Nikki Bella to get the win here.  Carmella might get revenge post match however.

Singles Match
Curt Hawkins vs. TBD

Reno:When I see TBD I only see one option – James Ellsworth. In a perfect world, Ellsworth would get the victory and we’d never have to deal with this awful Chuck Norrisesque version of Hawkins again. This isn’t a perfect world.

Prediction: Hawkins wins.

Rose: So far the promos for Curt Hawkins have been ludacris. My partners over at the Crimson Canvas Podcast (shameless plug) love his promos.  They think they’re so bad, they’re awesome. I just think they’re bad.  I have a suspicion that he’s going to show up, talk a big game and get beat quickly by someone like Kane.

Prediction: So….I guess I’m going to go with TBD via Pinfall here.

Pre-Show Singles Match
Jack Swagger vs. Baron Corbin

Reno: The story here is that Swagger came over the Smackdown after his “RAW contract” came to an end – which is a pretty silly story if you ask me for a number of reasons. Was it a 2 month exclusive contract? Could the creative not find something better here? This is sloppy WWE booking at its finest and it really shows that they just don’t know to do with their big men. Corbin deserves better and in WWE’s defense, I don’t think I could come up with anything for Swagger at this point either. I guess you put him on the pre-show against Corbin in a match that nobody cares about

Prediction: Corbin is 9-0-1 over Swagger since September 17th according to our friends over at ProWrestlingDB which means absolutely nothing. The draw is the only match that took place on TV so I give Swagger the victory here which means Corbin gets the next one. 50/50 booking at its finest.

Rose: Ok, this match will likely kick off the pre-show, and it’s unfortunate for Baron Corbin.  He’s deserving of more than what he’s being offered at this point in his career.  He’s been stuck in pre-show purgatory for a while now, and has moved on from Apollo Crews to Jack Swagger.

Baron might finally be on the verge of taking a step forward, and a win here could help. If Swagger gets the win, Corbin might as well pack up his ugly pants and head back to NXT.  Bottom line, I think Corbin should get the win, and hopefully move into a more interesting program going forward.

Prediction: Corbin via pinfall.
