New WWE World Champion AJ Styles kicked off tonight’s episode of Smackdown Live to address the WWE Universe following his victory over Dean Ambrose this past Sunday night at Backlash. Styles was interrupted by a returning John Cena who made it very clear that he’s ready to begin his quest to tie Ric Flair’s record and become a 16-time world champion. Then out came Dean Ambrose.

Cena and Ambrose cut a great promo before Shane McMahon came out to interrupt and announce that Styles’ first title defense would be of the triple-threat variety against both men at No Mercy.

WWE No Mercy will takes place on October 9th in Sacramento and will be the first event held under the name since October of 2008 when Chris Jericho successfully defended his World Heavyweight Title against Shawn Michaels in a ladder match in the main event of the night.
