WWE Wish List: Must-See Matches and Surprises

P1010161For the first time in a while, WWE stands at an intersection of endless possibilities. The current landscape provides their creative department with several potentially thrilling storylines and epic matches. Whether we’ll have to wait for Wrestlemania, or get a quicker payoff at Royal Rumble, there are interesting ideas reportedly being kicked around WWE (and within my own brain). Ladies and gentlemen, here are the things we must see from WWE; either now, or at Wrestlemania.

Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose for the United States Championship – I’ve written about this one already, but it’s such a good idea, I must bring it up again. Reigns seems like the one member of The Shield most likely to break out in 2014 and he’ll need some gold around his waist eventually. Ambrose has not been given a solid feud since winning the United States Championship, which is a shame given his top-notch talent. If The Shield finally get divorced, Reigns vs. Ambrose for that title has to happen. Seth Rollins could also be thrown in the mix, perhaps affecting the outcome in favor of whomever he chooses to side with.

Mark Henry vs. Big E Langston for the Intercontinental Championship – Yes, I think every partnership WWE is building right now was done so with the intent of breaking it up. Langston is getting a huge face push and Henry is awesome as a heel, so this one speaks for itself. Also, this is one power vs. power match I’d actually like to see. More often than not, the traditional power matches are rather boring with a couple of decent spots. Henry and Langston are both skilled performers in addition to their power. If Langston picked up Henry for a Big Ending, I’d freak out.

Brodus Clay vs. Tensai – Just kidding.

CM Punk vs. Triple H – Even though Shawn Michaels ran interference on RAW, it’s pretty clear this is where we’re headed. Maybe it won’t happen until Wrestlemania, and Triple H will continue to throw goons (The Shield, HBK, Wyatts, etc.) at Punk until they meet in the ring. With the fantastic promo skills to match the in-ring action, the WWE Universe should be looking forward to this one. The Best vs. The Game.

Royal Rumble Surprises – Christian? Sheamus? You almost forgot about Sheamus, didn’t you? Early reports during his rehab had Sheamus targeting a Rumble return, so it’s a possibility. WWE is always looking for those surprise entries; usually there is a legitimate surprise and a couple of humorous ones (The Godfather, Jim Duggan). Sheamus is the closest thing to a legit surprise return they have, so if he’s healthy, it seems logical. Christian’s return obviously depends on his health, but if he’s well, Captain Charisma would be a great Rumble participant. Beyond that, I’ve always wanted to see a Christian/Dean Ambrose PPV match, so perhaps he’d be a good US Championship contender.

Shane McMahon – Vince returned at TLC and appeared to be aligned with Triple H and Stephanie. If The Authority is ever going to be challenged, don’t we need another corporate type to lead the rebellion? If that’s not going to be the Chairman, maybe it will be his son. There have been faint rumors that WWE would like Shane to make a Wrestlemania appearance, so it’s not beyond the realm of possibility. Perhaps we’ll get a Cena or Bryan vs. Orton, each paired with a McMahon, winner gets control. Who knows? While I don’t expect it since Shane has some years on him, if he gives us one more top rope elbow, I’ll riot.

Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena vs. Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship – We could be heading to this match sooner rather than later. The end of RAW left us with all three in the ring; the arrogant Orton holding up his championship gold. The match that preceded was nothing short of amazing. Adding Cena with the title on the line gives you the recipe for an all-time match.

WWE is in a great place. All of the above would be entertaining matches and surprises, but I wouldn’t dare to call them probable. With so many options at their fingertips, it’s possible none of these come true and a new list emerges. As we head into Royal Rumble and the road to Wrestlemania, whatever does come true will be a wild ride.
